As some of you might know, I have a raging tremor in my hands. They constantly shake. It’s honestly a really good conversation starter and everyone seems to find it hilarious. However, I do experience some setbacks that are pretty funny.
- Making Coffee in the Morning
In university, my roommates and I had an extremely fancy espresso machine. Part of the process involved transferring ground coffee beans into the little filter thing. This was challenging for my shaky hands. Almost every morning I would leave a little trail of coffee grounds all over the counter because I couldn’t make solid contact with the filter. Luckily, my roommates found it entertaining rather than annoying.
2. Eating Soup in Public
I simply can’t eat soup in public. My hands shake way too much, which results in broth and other soup particles everywhere. In the privacy of my home, it’s okay because I can change my shirt, but in public that’s not an option.
3. Manicures
This one has recently come to my attention. A few weeks ago, I decided to get a manicure with a cool design, which I’ve never done before. In the past, I have only gotten a plain boring colour, which is easy for me because I can rest my hands down on the table the whole time, preventing tremor attacks. However, at the end of this appointment the lady asked to take a picture of my hands. I immediately began to sweat. As she was contorting my hands into different positions it became evident my tremor would not allow me to stay still. She took the photos anyway. The salon frequently posts cool manicures on their Instagram, and when I checked mine wasn’t there, so I can only assume my hands were too shaky and the photo was fucked.
4. Taking Photos
When I take photos of myself or other people, they always come out blurry. If I want it the turn out at all, I must hold my phone with two hands and grip it aggressively. It is now a well-known thing to never ask me to take a picture for you.
